Million-billion or lakh-crore?
The international system groups digits in threes — thousand, million, billion, trillion — so 1,000,000 is “one million”. The Indian system groups the first three digits, then pairs — thousand, lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000) — so the same number is “ten lakh”. For cheques, write the amount in words with the currency name and add “only” at the end so nothing can be appended — for example “One thousand two hundred thirty-four rupees and fifty-six paise only”. This converter handles both systems, four currencies, ordinals and decimals, entirely in your browser.
